As the Chief Executive Officer for COUNT Educational Institute, Simangaliso Twala is responsible for running all facets of the organization. He is a high school mathematics teacher by profession, with many years of experience working in the field of mathematics education.Before joining the NGO sector, he taught high school mathematics then later worked for the Maths Centre as a Senior Manager.
He later joined COUNT as the Chief Operations Officer (COO) responsible for all organizational operations. He is an experienced material developer and trainer/facilitator (mathematics) of learning in teacher in-service training in all nine (9) South African provinces. He is a member of the Association for Mathematics Education of South Africa (AMESA) and has attended and presented workshops at both
local and international conferences (International Congress on Mathematical Education – ICME).
He has co-authored eight (8) numeracy/mathematics textbooks; five (5) with Heinemann Publishers (All Aboard Series) and three (3) with Cambridge University Press (Stepping into Mathematics Series).
He is a member of the team that is assisting in the Government of Malawi’s programme, the National
Numeracy Programme (NNP), led by the Malawi Ministry of Education and funded by UK Aid from the UK government. NNP aims to improve student learning outcomes in mathematics, so girls and boys have a solid foundation in basic skills to succeed in the rest of their schooling and fulfil their potential.
He serves in the DBE/NECT Teaching Mathematics for Understanding Lesson plan and the Bala Wande Material Review Committees. He is a qualified assessor and moderator of learning.
